Fast-growing artist stevexcooper has teamed up with underground artist Gabe Gill for a new single, ‘Bad Reviews’. It’s a unique track that feels like a blend of pop and rap on the surface, with catchy melodies and hooks filling the sub-two-minute runtime. However, the influence of Squarepusher and Aphex Twin can be felt in the ever-changing beats that wobble away beneath the surface, whether it’s those fat bass synth sounds or the crunchy editing of breakbeat drum patterns. This is the A-side of a pair of releases called BREAKDOWN AT THE CINEPLEX, with Cooper explaining: “The movie theme and visual concept revealed itself through the songwriting process, rather than being discussed in advance.
